How Do You Paint Sun Faded Fiberglass Screens?
Fiberglass screens are ordinary wire mesh screens with a fiberglass border. They are cheaper and easier to replace than ordinary full metal screens, however, ultraviolet light tends to cause them to fade over time. Fortunately, you can rejuvenate the appearance of a sun-faded fiberglass screen by applying a coat of oil-based paint. Before you get started, though, you will need to condition the surface to so the new paint adheres or you will end up with a finish that will eventually chip and peel. Remove the sun faded fiberglass screen from the window. Clean the fiberglass frame with dish soap and rags. Rinse away all soapy residue with a water hose. Allow the entire screen to dry, including the wire mesh. Abrade the fiberglass frame by lightly sanding it with 300-grit sandpaper. Wipe down the fiberglass frame with a tack cloth. Cover the wire mesh with masking paper and painter’s tape. Lay the fiberglass screen on top of a fabric drop cloth. Spray on a light coat of acrylic spray prime
