How Do You Patch Cedar Shingle Siding?
Cedar siding can easily wear away from weather conditions or natural wear and tear, and you may need to repair it often. Patching shingles that have been damaged is not difficult, and doing so can give your entire siding a new look. Patching cedar shingle siding correctly can improve the appearance of your house, and it is one of the few shingle repairs that can be done in the wintertime. Check the siding carefully for any minor splits or cracks. Apply caulk to these minor defects and take note of any seriously damaged shingles that will need to be removed and replaced. Use a chisel to remove the largest pieces of the seriously damaged shingles. Simply pry up the pieces and discard them. Use the back of a claw hammer to remove the nails left from the damaged shingles. Remove any additional debris remaining from the original shingles. (Wear work gloves for this step if necessary.) Insert replacement shingles into the area vacated by the old shingles. Hammer three nails into each shingle
