Step 1 The first step to performing CPR is to ensure that your scene is safe. Remember, you don’t want to become a victim yourself. Step 2 Next, make sure the victim is on a firm, flat surface. If the victim is on his/her side or facedown, you will need to roll them over carefully onto their back. Step 3 Kneel to your victim’s side and check for responsiveness (tap/shout to the victim.) If you have no response, yell for help. If someone comes to help you, have that person call 911. If no one comes, leave the victim to call 911.
