• Identify your interests and passions. Planning a career around a field that you enjoy will make your work days seem less like work. • Identify the skills, knowledge, training, and experience you already have. Plan how what you already have can lead you in a direct you want to go. • Envision what it would be like to work in a chosen field. Find out as much as you can about what it’s like to work in a particular field. This will help you decide if it’s something you want to do. • If possible, try to get a job in your chosen field even if it isn’t initially on the level you want. For example, if you are thinking about becoming a chef, try getting a job as a cook for a while before you invest your precious time and hard-earned money on classes. Talk to others already working in the field you are considering. Those already in the field can give you valuable tips and advice on what the job is like and what it took to get it.
