How Do You Plant Amaryllis In Water?
The amaryllis is a unique plant because it is able to grow either in soil or in water. Amaryllis comes in a variety of colors and is considered a foolproof flower by many gardeners. Purchase bulbs at home centers, nurseries or through mail-order companies. Amaryllis grown indoors will sprout in about two to eight weeks. When grown outdoors, the plant will normally bloom in the fall or winter. Place river stones in a clear glass planter, to a depth of about 4 inches. Trim off browned or dried roots from the bulb, keeping the white fleshy roots intact. Place the bulb in the container, roots down. Do not worry if the bulb seems wedged inside the container and cannot sit directly on the stones; this is fine. Add water to the container until the water is about 1 inch away from the base of the bulb. Ensure that the water does not touch the bulb, or the bulb will rot.
