If you don’t have the patience for a real game of baseball and just want to slug it out and hit home runs, home run derby is a good contest for you. There are two ways to play home run derby–playing nine innings, as they did in the 1950s TV show, or playing to ten outs, as they do in Major League Baseball each year before the All Star Game. Determine which player will bat in the visiting half inning and which will bat in the home half. The visiting player will bat first. Begin play by having a pitcher throw batting practice style pitches to the visiting batter. The batter can let as many pitches as he wants go by, but each time he swings, it will result in either an out or a home run. Any ball that doesn’t clear the fence in fair territory is an out. Pitch to the batter until he accumulates three outs. Then, the home batter should bat in the same manner and with the same rules that the visiting batter did.
