If your child struggles with learning spelling words you may find this simple technique helpful. Your role as the parent or tutor will be to teach the method and give the pretest and practice tests. Your child’s job is to do the practice steps. Your child should study words nightly for the best results. Give your child a pretest to see how many words on the list she may already be able to spell. Then take any words that are missed and have her use the following procedure. Gather a pile of small strips of scrap paper, a pencil and the spelling list. Look at the first word to be studied and spell it out loud. Cover the word. Write it on a strip of the scrap paper. Uncover the word. Check your spelling by looking at each letter.
