As a teacher and a parent, I know what a struggle it can be to learn the weekly spelling word list that children in elementary school are given. Here are a few tips to make the process less painful! An early start in the week is crucial. Make sure your child gives you their list of words the day they are assigned. (Usually on Monday) If your child has trouble learning the words, ask the teacher if you can have the word list on Friday for the following week so you can work on the weekend. If your child has a spelling book that has the lists in them, copy down the words a week ahead of time so you can begin working on them. Here are some ideas I’ve used in the classroom as well as with my own kids to master the words each week: *Let your child type the words on the computer. Have them type each word three times–using a different font each time. *Let your child type and print the words in color–in big fonts. Let them tape the hardest words to their bedroom door for the week. *Let your c
