Be ready to make some major adjustments the first week with your new family member. First, get organized and fully puppy-proof your home, as you would if you were expecting a toddler to come for a visit, because pups are a lot like children, curious and in to everything. The holidays or other special occasions are not a good time to bring home a new puppy. These times are filled with enough activities. If possible, wait until after your house has settled down to normal routines. This will make your pups transition less stressful, as he will be entering strange surroundings. Before bringing home puppy decide on a name, and make sure everyone begins using his name each time they interact with him. This will teach him to pay attention when you call him, which will make training easier later on.
