How Do You Prepare South African Tomato Gravy?
South Africa was colonised by the Dutch and English. Our Culture and country is very diverse. Our food is a mix of traditional African with European influence! We celebrate diversity in languages, race, ethnicities and too, in food! We love good hearty food. A favorite past time in my family is to BBQ. We call it ‘braai’. As a South African, I crave my mom’s cooking! This very simple side dish is a sauce over either mashed potatoes, or ‘pap’ (a traditional dish prepared from maize meal). It is best with BBQ steak, bratwurst, South African Boerewors (ofcourse) or just over rice. It has the consistency of Spanish Salsa however, it is warm and less spicy. Grate tomatoes with cheese grater. Do not add the flesh. Slice onion and dice green pepper. Chop chilli. Remember to discard the stem and the tip. Braise onion in pot using vegetable oil.
