Know the steps to take to help prevent the pork tapeworm infection: • Avoid consuming raw or undercooked pork (and other meats). • Do not eat pork that is likely to be infected with the tapeworm. • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water after using the bathroom and before handling any food products. This tip is especially important to follow when traveling in developing countries. • Thoroughly wash and peel all raw vegetables and fruits before consumption. • Avoid all foods that may potentially be contaminated with feces. • Drink only bottled water, water that has been boiled for at least 1 minute, or carbonated drinks that are in cans or bottles. • Do not drink from fountains or use ice cubes in areas where pigs are allowed to roam freely or in countries where sanitation and hygiene are inadequate.
