How Do You Propagate Hostas From Seeds?

0

Hosta is a very popular flowering landscape plant that is grown for its interesting foliage and not its flowers. Hosta can be blue, gray or green, and variegated or solid. They are hardy to many different regions of the United States and very easy to grow. Hosta are usually propagated by division, meaning that they are dug up while dormant and their roots divided to form new plants. They can be started from seeds, though. Keep in mind that the seed you plant may not yield a plant with the same characteristics as the parent. Mix together 1 tbsp. of bleach and 2/3 cups of room temperature water. Place the hosta seeds into the water and allow to soak for three hours. Pour the seed-starting mix into the bucket and water well, stirring with a spoon or a stick to make sure that the soil is evenly moist. Add the moist soil to the garden flat. Fill it to within ½ inch of the top. Press the soil down lightly with your hands. Scatter the hosta seeds, thickly, on top of the soil. Cover the seeds
