How Do You Protect Ripening Fruit From Winter Frost?

0

Frost can doom an entire orchard of ripening fruit. If you want to give your fruit the best chance of ripening fully on the branch, you’ll need to protect it. The good news is that it doesn’t take anything fancy to guard your fruit from frost and keep it alive and healthy. Reference a Farmer’s Almanac or another source of weather information to determine the predicted date of the first frost. Look over your trees about three days prior to the predicted frost. Take note of all branches that have ripening fruit. Place a plastic bag over each piece of ripening fruit. Bunch up the bag around the opening and tie it tightly to the branch with a piece of twine. Remove all of the bags and twine after the frost has finished or when the fruit fully ripens.
