Chair rails add a finishing decorative touch to the decor of any room. Installed horizontally on a wall at the height of a chair back, these wooden molding pieces serve to break up the blankness of walls. They also look great in a nursery by adding a bit of formal decoration to an otherwise playful look. Installing chair rails in your home is a fairly easy project to do yourself without calling in the experts. It is also a relatively quick project that shouldn't take longer than a single afternoon to accomplish, unless you want to apply multiple coats of paint or wood stain. Decide how high you want the chair rail to be on the wall. The typical height for chair rails is 32 inches above the floor.
