How Do You Read Books For School Without Getting Bored?
• Don’t set the book down for more than a day or two or you’ll be re-reading in order to remember details. Look at a syllabus or any guide handed out by the teacher at the beginning of the year. See if the list of required reading is included. If a hand out is not available you can speak with the teacher to discuss the reading requirements. • Get an idea of the books you will be required to read. • Look up the authors, subjects, etc. online and get a general idea of what you’ll be reading. Seek out reviews but avoid spoilers or any information that could taint your learning of the material. • Try to get excited about a particular author, characters, time period of the story or just the literary value of the book you are reading. • Read the book! Try to get through the first 5-10 chapters. • It’s difficult to get excited about a book when you are only reading a chapter at a time. It’s easy to become bored when you become confused with the characters or story. • Start reading and give yo
