Longitude and Latitude on a map is set the same as a simple graph. X,Y Longitude will start at zero (0) and go east to 180 and west to 180. The zero measurement in longitude is the Prime Meridian Latitude will start at 0 and go north to 90 and south to 90. The zero measurement in latitude is the Equator. If you are having trouble with longitude and latitude do a play on words. Latitude sounds somewhat like ladder, a ladder takes you up and down (there is your Y). So if your lat/long coordinates were 120 E 35 N, Your X is 120 and Y is 35. The direction after the number tells you what way you need to go from the zero points. So using 120° E 35°N you will go 120 degrees east of the Prime Meridian and 35 degrees north of the equator. On a basic map you would be going up and to the right. 120° W 35° S you would be looking down and to the left. Take it a step further and you can break the coordinates into another 60 minutes and 60 seconds for more exact measurements. (120° 34′ 15″ W 35° 45′
