An old 10-gallon aquarium can be turned into a tank for starting plants from cuttings. Read on to learn how to recycle an aquarium for starting plant from cuttings. Wash the tank out thoroughly. Fill the bottom of the tank with an even layer of sand. Spritz the sand with water until it is thoroughly (not just the surface) damp. To grow cutting, insert the stem end into the soil to a depth that will keep the cutting upright. This tank works particularly well with woody cuttings, such as lavender or rosemary. If you are using it with cuttings from succulent plants, you may want to allow the sand to dry out at intervals in order to prevent the roots from rotting. Either turn the original aquarium light on from morning to evening, or use a grow light in the same way.
