How Do You Refinish Wood Gym Floors?
Gymnasium floors support more than just athlete’s feet and sporting equipment; gyms are often the breeding grounds for dreams of Olympic glory and professional sports contracts. Most importantly, gym floors must be safe for the athletes, so most floors are finished with multiple coats of protective finishing to make the area smooth, flat and stable. As this finish starts to wear over time it can suffer from bumps, cracks and other damage, endangering the athletes. Refinishing can restore the gym to safe use. Mop the wood floors with floor cleaner to remove dirt, dust and other surface contaminants. Cover surrounding walls, seats and equipment with protective tarp. If only one part of the floor is damaged, cover the remainder of the floor as well to protect it from the effects of refinishing.
