How Do You Remove A Stucco Finish From Drywall?

If you have a stucco finish on walls in your house it can be removed and your walls can be restored back to a smooth painted surface. The first thing you need to do is to scrape as much of the rough surface off with the scraper as possible. This cuts down on the amount of sanding that you have to do and also the volume of dust you will create. Before you begin sanding you will want to close off any doorways to contain as much dust as possible. With the 50 grit sandpaper in your palm sander and your dust mask on you can begin sanding the walls making sure you keep the sander moving around the wall surface being careful not to break through the face paper. If possible use a sander that attaches directly to your shop vac. After you have finished sanding vacuum the wall and all surrounding areas with the shop vac to remove all of the sanding dust. Apply at least one coat of drywall primer and then you are ready to apply the finish (color) coat.
