Because water-retention levels in humans can vary wildly throughout any given day, fingers can become swollen with little warning. Sometimes this can lead to rings getting stuck. Trying to simply force a ring off of a swollen finger can be dangerous and painful. Try to push one end of a piece of strong string underneath the ring so that it comes through on the other side. If the ring is on so tightly that you can’t do this with just your fingers, use a popsicle stick to try and push it through. Once the string is under the ring, pull the end that is closest to your fingertip. Pull the string through in this direction until there is only about 3 inches of string left on the other side of the ring. Hold the longer portion of the string and begin to wind it tightly around your finger, starting directly above the ring.
