Terrazzo flooring is a cementitious material that offers a visual effect similar to marble or granite while being much more versatile and affordable. Like other flooring materials, at some point during its lifetime, it may have been covered with carpet by a homeowner. The floor can be quickly restored by simply removing the carpet in a generally straightforward process using mostly basic tools. Cut a slit in the carpet with the razor knife, then pull up on the carpet using the flat pry bar. You may need to cut seams between strips of carpet to ease the removal (carpet seams are usually heat glued, but can be easily cut). Pull the carpet padding from the floor by pulling at the edges near the carpet tack strip; the padding should come up easily.
