How Do You Remove Clearcoat Scratches?
The majority of vehicles made since 1990 have a clear coat applied over the paint before they leave the manufacturing plant. Clear coat protects the car’s color, preserving and enhancing the paint’s gloss and shine. Clear coat also bears the visible scratches that every car acquires. If your car has surface scratches, there are ways to remove them. Wet-sand kits are one method of removing surface scratches in clear coat. The kits cost about $25, as of November 2009. According to Langka, a manufacturer of wet-sand products, the kits fix scratches that are noticeable but not deep enough for paint touchup. Place the sandpaper in the container (about the size of a coffee can) and add water until the pieces are completely covered. Soak the sandpaper in the water for about 10 minutes.
