Dye transfer is a specific problem with lighter leathers. Ink removal products should not be used in this case. The only product on the market specifically formulated for dye transfer is Maxi Cleaner (it is a much stronger detergent cleaner than any other – regular strength cleaners will only work if the dye is very fresh) The deeper the dye has penetrated the finish the harder it will be to remove and if Maxi Cleaner does not remove it then it is not a cleaning problem and wil have to be tackled in a different way. It is important to remove all the residues of dye transfer out of the leather as the final recourse is to recolour the leather and any residues that are left will only come back through. Using a good leather protector (not a conditioner) will help to inhibit this problem from occuring in the furture.
