Macrovision is placed onto a VCR so that it can’t record copy-protected DVDs from a DVD player connected to the “Video In” on the VCR. However, you can get around the Macrovision if you want to back up your DVD movies onto VHS (this is legal as long as you don’t give the copies away or show the movies for profit). You can’t use both VCR and DVD sides of the combo at the same time, so in order to record onto VHS you must connect a stand-alone DVD player. Connect the RCA side of the 3.5 mm to RCA cable into the “Video Out” port on the back side of the lone DVD player. Insert the 3.5 mm end of the cable running out of the lone DVD player into the “Video In” port on the video camera. Attach the second pair of 3.5 mm to RCA cables to the video camera.
