Popups are sometimes authentic warnings or error message. Other times, popups occur when information is required such as login names and passwords. However, the popups that are most aggravating are also the most damaging. These are the ones caused by malware on a computer. Malware, which is an abbreviated term meaning malicious software, is a program installed on a computer without the user's permission or knowledge. Malware is used to cause damage to a system and to collect information about the computer's user. Because of this, it should be removed as quickly and thoroughly as possible. Step 1 Stop popups in Internet Explorer. Open a new IE window. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Pop-up Blocker." Click "Turn On Pop-up Blocker." Step 2 Stop popups in Firefox.
