How Do You Remove Old Caulk From Ceramic Tile?
When it comes to the tile around your bathtub, it is important to periodically remove and recaulk it. Because tile and caulk are constantly under siege from water, the caulk is eventually going to develop mildew or mold. However, removing the old caulk from the ceramic tile is not a tedious task. Open your utility knife and cut along the top and bottom where the caulk is connected to the ceramic tile. Pull off all the caulk you can by hand. You may be able to remove the caulk in long strips if the cuts were clean. Hold the glass scraper at an angle to avoid damaging the surrounding ceramic tile. Scrape the remaining bits and pieces of the old caulk away from the tile. Dip a two-sided sponge (absorbent and abrasive) into mineral water. Rub the surface of the ceramic tile to remove any remaining silicone residue. Dry the tile and you are ready to reapply the new caulk.
