If you have a “handy” man or woman around the house, you can easily clean up their inadvertent messes. Removing polyurethane paint from carpet is much less difficult than most people think. Even if it’s dried on and hardened, you can still remove the stain nearly completely; no one will be able to tell it was ever there. Remove excess paint. Scrape off hardened, dried-on polyurethane. Use a metal or plastic scraper and try to remove big chunks as much as possible. Vacuum spot to remove small particles. If polyurethane is not yet hardened, use old rags to scoop up as much of the wet product as you can. Scrub with acetone nail polish remover or just plain acetone. Saturate the carpet by pouring a small amount right on the stain. Then scrub stain with a rough cloth or a soft brush. Soak up excess by blotting with clean cloths. Scrub with Dawn dish soap. Mix 1 tbsp. Dawn dish soap with 2 qt. hot water. Use this solution to scrub spot with soft brush. Rinse with clean water. Blot dry. A goo
