How Do You Remove Rust From A Cast-Iron Fence?

0

Cast-iron fencing is attractive and durable, but as with all cast iron, it is susceptible to rust when exposed unprotected to moisture. Not all commercial rust removers are suitable for cast iron, so choose carefully. Never use a rust remover formulated for cast iron on other materials, such as plastic or cement. Rust removal from cast-iron fencing can be tedious and meticulous. You’ll find your efforts more rewarding if you complete one small fence section at a time, allowing you to see the results of your hard work, before moving on to the next section. Wipe down the first section of the fence from which you’ll be removing rust, using rags or shop towels. Don your rubber gloves, mask and glasses. Spray acid-based rust remover onto a clean, dry cloth until the cloth is damp. Apply the cloth to rusty spots on the cast iron fence. Hold the cloth in place for about 30 seconds to allow the rust remover to penetrate the cast iron. Rub vigorously with the cloth to remove surface rust. Move
