Restore the original luster of your paint by removing the scratches from the clear coat. You can save money by buffing out the scratches yourself with a few tools and some elbow grease. Spray water onto the scratches you want to fix. Wrap the sandpaper around the sponge pad and sand the scratches in a straight, back-and-forth motion, not circular. Make sure you keep the area moist with the water as you sand, and keep sanding until the scratch is visibly gone. Rinse the sanded surface clean with water. Apply a moderate amount of the buffing compound to the sanded area. Spread the compound using the buffer (power off) with the compounding pad attached. Turn on the buffer and slowly buff the area using a side-to-side motion. Be sure to choose a speed that is appropriate for your project per the instructions that came with your buffer.
