Before you can install a brand new screen on a sliding screen door, you must remove the door handle. Once the handle is out of the way, you should be able to install the new screen. Use these suggestions to remove the sliding screen door handle without any major problems. Lay your screen door frame down on the ground or a flat surface. Remove the old screen completely if you can, or take it out of the spline everywhere except where the door handle is located. Unscrew the screws used to hold the small plastic door handle in place. There are usually two small screws located on each side of the handle. Pull the screen from the frame, and twist it out of the locking mechanism. Leave only the locking mechanism in its place.
