If you have a leaky faucet, you need to remove the outside casing and stem to find the problem. To get to the seat, first turn the leaky faucet water off and begin to disassemble the faucet. Replacement parts can be found at hardware and plumbing supply stores. Remove the plastic disc in the handle of the faucet. Once you remove it, you’ll see the screw that holds the handle on. Unscrew it and pull off the handle. Twist off the trim around the stem. Use a deep-set faucet socket to loosen and remove the leaky faucet stem. Once it’s off, you expose the seat. Inspect the seat. Insert your finger into the hole and twist. The seat should be smooth if it is not, it’s the source of your problem. You can also examine the rubber washer at the end of the stem to see how it is worn. If it’s ripped, there may just be a burr on the seat that you can grind down.
