How Do You Remove Windings On Autoharp Strings?

0

Removing the windings on autoharp strings can be a challenge, particularly when changing the bass strings because of their thickness, or if the strings are rusted or old. But by using a methodical approach to string removal, and a few basic hand tools, removing the strings and their windings will be much easier. It isn’t necessary to remove the autoharp’s chord bar for routine string changes, unless you plan on doing a thorough cleaning. Autoharp strings are expensive, and learning to change them the proper way will lengthen string life, improve tuning and add more enjoyment to playing your instrument. Insert the tuning wrench on the tuning pin of the lowest (thickest) string, and turn it about three full turns to loosen the string. Grip the string near the tuning pin with needle-nose pliers, unwind the string from the tuning pin and pull the string out. Depending on how the string was installed, it may have a bend where it exits the tuning pin. Straighten the bend with the needle-nose
