Windows Messenger is a communication tool that allows you to chat with other users. By default, Windows Messenger launches automatically when you start your computer and displays its icon on the taskbar. If you are no longer interested in using Windows Messenger, you can disable it so that it longer runs automatically when you start you computer. Click the Windows “Start” menu and click the “Control Panel.” Click “Administrative Tools.” If you are using Windows XP Home, double-click “Performance and Maintenance” then double-click “Administrative Tools.” A new window launches. Double-click “Services” and right-click “Messenger.” Select “Properties” from the pop-up menu. A new dialog box launches. Click the “Stop” button to disable Windows Messenger and remove it from the taskbar. Select “Disable” in the “Startup Type” box. Click “OK” to save the changes and disable Windows Messenger.
