Clean out the crack with a knife and a vacuum. Make sure that you get all of the debris out of the crack. Fill the crack with spackle using a putty knife. Remove any extra with your hand. Cover the crack with drywall tape. You will have to cut the tape into strips to cover the crack. Apply more spackle over the tape. Wipe off the knife so that the spackle does not get lumpy. Using medium grit sand paper, sand the entire area of the crack. Paint the entire area of the crack.
