If your sliding door has a broken lock, you may be able to fix it without buying a completely new door. The latch may simply be stuck or out of alignment with the strike plate. If you still cannot get the door lock to work, you can purchase an inexpensive replacement lock and swap out the defective lock in just a few minutes. Examine the door latch and strike plate to make sure they are lined up. If they are not, move the strike plate up or down along the door jamb so it meets up with the latch. Apply a household lubricant like WD-40 if the door latch gets stuck when you lock and unlock the door. Remove the screws that connect the lock to the sliding door.
