How Do You Repair A Solar Panel?
Unlike batteries, solar panels must be exposed to the elements to collect the power-giving energy of the sun. Unfortunately, this means they’re also exposed to environmental hazards that can damage their glass faces, soldered connections, and other components. Luckily, most panels are resilient and accessible enough that a simple repair procedure is all you need to restore one to proper, fully-functioning status, no matter what’s wrong with it. With the right tools, repair is easy enough for almost anyone. Step 1 Cut gently through any padding material on the back of the solar panel to expose any loose or broken terminals. Unsolder them with the soldering iron, re-solder them with new, 2 percent silver solder, and tape the padding material back over them once the solder is dry. Step 2 Test your solar panel’s broken or chipped glass plate for output reduction with a multimeter, and compare your results against the normal power expected from that panel.
