How Do You Repair Cedar Shingle Siding?
Repairing shingle siding is much easier than installing it in the first place. In order to repair cedar shingle siding, you will need to evaluate the severity of the damage to the original siding. Sometimes many shingles need to be removed and replaced, whereas sometimes only small repairs, such as caulking are necessary. Evaluate the damaged shingles. Decide which shingles need to be completely replaced. You can fill in small cracks and holes with caulk, but more severe damage calls for replacement. Put on heavy work gloves and pull out the damaged shingle from the siding. Slide spacers under the shingle in the row above the damaged one. Slide a hacksaw blade beneath those shingles to cut off the nails. Position the replacement shingle, making sure that it aligns with the adjacent shingles. Leave at least one-eighth to one-quarter inch between the replacement shingles and the adjacent shingles to allow for expansion due to moisture. Insert two nails into either top end of the replacem
