I love the log idea. My idea was a plant pot, fill the bottom with something light – such as styrene and top with plaster of paris. The styrene should keep the finished pot lighter to carry. Before the plaster sets, coat the bottom of the tree with a lubricant, petroleum jelly would work and put into the plaster. Support it until it sets, shouldn’t take long – you can take the tree out before it is completely dry the hole will stay. Paint the dry plaster with glue and sprinkle with real potting mix or with fake soil for model building, even just paint it brown. Could even mulch it with tinsel.
