Dropping heavy objects on a floor, dragging heavy pieces of furniture across it, or even walking on it with sharp-heeled shoes can create divots in the floor’s surface, in addition to scratches. Luckily, it is fairly easy to work most small dents out of a wood floor using simple tools available in most homes, as long as the wood fibers are merely compressed and not broken. Sand the finish off of the dent and the area just around it. Wet a clean cloth and place it on top of the dent. Heat an iron and place it on top of the cloth. Remove the iron and cloth once you’ve applied heat for a couple of minutes, or until the cloth has dried. Check the dent.
