If you want to update the look of your bathroom, replacing the vanity light can make a dramatic change. This is an easy job that can be done with a few basic tools in just a few minutes. Turn on the light that you want to replace. Have your helper watch the light while you find the breaker to turn off the light. Your helper can let you know the light is off. Your helper can also hold a flashlight for you while you work. Remove light bulbs and glass shades and set aside in a safe place so they are not broken. Remove the nuts that secure the fixture to the wall. These can usually be removed with your fingers but you may need to use your needle-nose pliers if they are too tight. Now with the fixture loose from the wall you can double check that the power is off with your voltage tester. Once you are sure the power is off, carefully pull the wires out of the junction box and disconnect the leads from the light from the house wiring. Set the old fixture aside.
