Remove the strut from your Kia Spectra and install its lower end in a vise with either aluminum or copper plates. Then loosen the piston rod upper nut several turns but do not remove it. If you remove the piston nut instead of loosening it, you may suffer serious injury or death from the energy released by the spring, which is compressed in the strut assembly. Place a specialized coil spring compressor tool on the spring, making sure that it securely and equally captures the spring coils.
