The year your Suburban was manufactured could change the diffuculty.If your Chevy is over heating even in smooth traffic conditions,it doesn’t mean your water pump is at fault.With the engine cool,remove radiator cap.Start engine and,if necesary add water.Look inside radiator and check to see if the water inside is moving.If the level goes up and down,then the water pump is pumping water around.If there is no water movement then water pump replacement might be needed.Diagnostics in auto repair is the same as in health care. Begin by draining water from radiator.A valve at the bottom of radiator,has a strange look to it and is hard to miss.Grip the two extended pieces,like two propellers on plane,with fingers or pliers.Careful, not to much force should be needed.Loosen clamps on hoses connected at top and bottom of water pump,hoses will probably be stuck tight,using reg screwdriver pry hoses off.This will drain rest of water.Tighten valve on radiator back up.There is a cover on most veh
