Some VW Jetta owners only think about the battery cables and terminals once the car won’t start at all. The battery and terminals should become a major concern when the vehicle exhibits problems starting. Check if the cables and terminals are loose or corroded. If the terminals appear badly deteriorated by corrosion or if the jaws are touching, replace the cables. Locate the top-post battery on the driver’s side of the VW Jetta behind the headlight under a black cover. Lift the cover off the battery with a flathead screwdriver. Loosen the bolt on the black negative battery cable first with a box wrench or cable clamp pliers. Wriggle the cable end off the post. Repeat the process on the red positive cable.
