How Do You Replace Cedar Lap Siding?
Cedar lap siding is a traditional building material that protects the underlying structure of your house from the elements. Over time, the cedar siding boards can be damaged by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays and water. A badly cracked or warped cedar siding board can be removed and replaced with a new board. The damaged board is pried up with a pry bar, and then the nails are pulled or cut. The old board is pulled off of the house and the new board is fit in place and fastened with nails. Use the pry bar to lift the damaged siding and expose the nail shafts. Pull the nails with a slater’s ripper, or cut the shafts with your hack saw blade saw. A slater’s ripper is a hooked tool that can be slid underneath siding to pull nails, and a hack saw blade saw is a single, toothed blade attached to a handle; the blade can be slid underneath siding to cut away the nails. Once the nails are pulled or cut, slide the cedar siding board out of place. Fit a new piece of cedar siding into the gap l
