How Do You Replace Electric Cooktop Heating Elements?
When a cooktop heating element no longer works, replacing it will depend on what type of cooktop you have. Standard coil cook tops require no disassembly of the cooktop. A ceramic glass cooktop will require that the cooktop be removed from the burner box. When purchasing the new heating element, have your model number and brand on-hand to purchase the correct cooktop part. Turn the circuit breaker to the electric cooktop off. Pull the control knobs off of the control stems. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws that secure the ceramic glass top to the frame. Lift the main top off of the burner box. Lay a towel over the top of the cooktop and position it against the wall. The towel will protect the finish of your ceramic glass top. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to disconnect the wires from the terminals of the faulty heating element. Remove the wires from the limiter that is attached to the element. Remove the screw that secures the element holding straps nearest the faulty element.
