Replacing a floor shower drain on your own can save you hundreds of dollars on plumbing and installation costs. A new shower floor drain can be an important upgrade if you are experiencing drainage or clogging issues with your current system. While it may seem like an extremely difficult process, it is actually quite simple if you follow proper instructions and guidelines. Cut the old drain with a hacksaw blade to remove the majority of the old floor drain. With the majority of the drain removed, use a screwdriver or any tool that can provide leverage and pry the remainder of the drain loose and remove it from its place. Remove the old rubber washer from its place. Set the new rubber washer into the drain hole. Place the new drain into the hole in the tub or shower and slide it into the rubber washer.
