The hardest thing about replacing broken or lost shingles on your roof is staying safe. The actual job is really straight-forward. Do not go up on a roof unless you are confident and have taken proper precautions. I don’t say this lightly. I watched my neighbor fall to the concrete below when his ladder slipped out from under him and my memory still replays the event in slow motion in my mind. Use ropes on a steep roof or, better, leave the job to a professional. Make sure your ladder is secure and you have a steady, safe surface to stand and work on. Again, call a roofer or a handyman if you are not comfortable working on a roof. Make sure you have all your materials together and easily within reach. Pull off any of the broken shingle parts left and clean off debris. Lay your new shingle by slipping the top under the bottom or flaps of the shingle just above the area where you removed the old tile.
