How do you replace the head gasket located on a 1986 Nissan truck 2.4L?
Append: Radiator does not need to be removed, neither does alternator or its bracket. I’ve done this job twice over the past 4 months. Make sure when removing the camshaft timing sprocket that your timing chain is held in place so that you do not lose engagement at the crankshaft sprocket. If the chain is not held in its exact location at the crank sprocket, that is if a link moves from a sprocket tooth, there is no way to make certain your valve timing is correct. You will then have to remove the timing chain cover to properly index the chain, adding possibly 30% or more to the labor time for the job! On the other hand, if you’re going to go to the trouble of replacing the head gasket, you might as well consider replacing the timing chain at the same time anyway.
