How Do You Replace The Headlights On A VW Beetle?

0

Unlike the old rear-engine VW Beetles of the 60s and 70s, today’s front-engine Beetles feature halogen capsule headlights. These smaller bulbs sit inside the headlight assembly. Although it takes a little longer to replace the bulbs on the newer Beetles, no tools are required, unlike the old sealed-beam units of the vintage Beetles. Open the hood and locate the headlight assembly release lever. It is located along the upper seam of the headlight assembly, between the two fender mounting bolts. Push down slightly on the release lever, and then pull it straight up as far as it will go. Push the headlight assembly out from the vehicle from behind, using one hand while getting ready to grab the assembly with the other hand. Disconnect the headlight bulb wire harness. Place the headlight assembly face down onto a towel or cloth to protect the lens from scratches. Unhook the plastic retaining clips that cover the rear headlight assembly on either side, revealing the headlights. Push slightly
