The thermostat in a Maytag oven is an oven sensor. The oven sensor monitors the temperature inside your oven and regulates the electrical current going to the bake and broil elements. If the oven elements are not turning off at the proper time, and you end up with burned meals, your oven sensor is probably at fault. You can quickly replace the oven sensor in your Maytag without removing the rear of the oven. Pull out the bottom utility drawer and set it out of the way. Reach inside the drawer cavity and unplug the Maytag oven power cord from the electrical outlet. Open the oven door and remove both cooking racks. Locate the oven sensor on the upper right side of the rear panel. The sensor will look like a long thin metal tube. Remove the two screws securing the oven sensor to the rear oven wall with a nut driver. Slowly pull the oven sensor away from the rear wall until the wire harness is accessible.
